Licensing and Testing at a Glance
A casino licence is not a badge of quality. It is a contract with a regulator: the operator agrees to a long list of obligations, and the regulator can fine it, attach conditions or revoke the licence if it fails to meet them. For British players, the regulator that matters is the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), and every operator that takes bets from Great Britain must hold one of its licences.
GoldenGun states that it holds a UKGC licence for remote casino games. This page explains what that licence obliges the operator to do, how you can verify it in a few minutes, which independent checks sit behind the games and the payment pages, and, just as importantly, what none of these certificates can guarantee. If you only read one section, read the step-by-step register check below: it is the single most useful thing you can do before your first deposit.

What a UKGC Licence Obliges the Operator to Do
The Commission’s Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP) are the rulebook. They run to dozens of conditions, but the ones that shape your experience as a player fall into five groups.
Age and identity verification
Since 2019, a UK operator must verify your age and identity before you deposit or play, including free-to-play demos. In practice that means a photo ID (passport or driving licence) and a proof of address dated within the last three months. Higher deposit levels can trigger source-of-funds questions. Annoying when you just want to play, but it closes the door on under-18s and on stolen identities.
Safer gambling duties
Licensees must offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, show reality checks, take part in GAMSTOP and interact with customers who show signs of harm. They must also run affordability checks and act on what they find, which is why a long session or a run of large deposits can prompt a message from the casino.
Fair and transparent terms
Terms must be clear, prominent and fair under consumer law. Bonus rules cannot be buried, wagering on bonus funds is capped at 10x since 19 January 2026, and the casino cannot change a promotion’s rules mid-way to your disadvantage.
Segregation-of-funds disclosure
Operators must tell you how customer balances are protected if the business becomes insolvent, using the Commission’s rating scale. The rules require disclosure, not a particular level of protection, so read the statement rather than assuming your balance is ring-fenced.
Product rules
Slot stakes are capped at £5 per spin (£2 for ages 18–24), features such as autoplay and bonus buys are banned for GB players, and credit cards cannot be used to fund gambling.
| Licence obligation | What it means for players |
|---|---|
| Age and ID verification before play | Upload ID and proof of address once; nobody under 18 can open a working account |
| Safer gambling tools and interaction | Limits, reality checks, time-outs and self-exclusion are always available in your account |
| Fair, prominent terms | Bonus rules, withdrawal limits and fees must be easy to find and not changed unfairly |
| 10x wagering cap on bonuses | You never face more than ten times the bonus amount in wagering |
| Funds-protection disclosure | You are told whether your balance is protected if the operator fails |
| Complaints process plus ADR | A free, independent route exists if the casino’s own answer does not satisfy you |
| Stake limits and banned features | £5 per spin (£2 for 18–24s), no bonus buys, no autoplay, no credit cards |
How to Verify the Licence Yourself
Never take a licence claim on trust, including ours. The check takes about three minutes.
- Scroll to the footer of the casino’s homepage. Note the licence number and the name of the operating company printed there.
- Open the UK Gambling Commission’s public register from the Commission’s own website, not from a link on the casino page.
- Search by the account number or the company name you noted.
- Confirm the status reads as active, not suspended, revoked or surrendered.
- Check that the licence covers remote casino activity and that the trading domain you are visiting is listed against it.
- Glance at the regulatory action section. Past fines are not automatically a red flag, but you should know about them.
If the domain is missing from the register, or the company name in the footer does not match, do not deposit. Report it to the Commission instead.
RNG and RTP Certification
Every slot and RNG table game relies on a random number generator. The operator states that its games are tested by independent accredited test houses, which run the generator through statistical batteries to prove the outcomes are unpredictable and evenly distributed. The same labs verify that a game’s return to player (RTP) matches what the studio declares.
The studios on the site, among them Pragmatic Play, Play’n GO, Hacksaw Gaming and Nolimit City, submit certified builds, and the casino may only offer approved versions to British players. You can see the result for yourself: the RTP of each title is published in its info panel, usually behind the ‘i’ or menu icon. Live tables from studios such as Evolution are filmed in real studios with physical cards and wheels, so they are audited on procedure rather than on an RNG.
Remember what RTP means. A 96% RTP is an average across millions of spins. Your next hundred spins can land well above or well below it.
Data Protection: UK GDPR and the ICO
Identity documents and bank details are exactly the data fraudsters want, so the rules here are strict. A UK operator is a data controller under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and it must be registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). That gives you the right to see what is held about you, to correct it, and in some cases to have it deleted, although anti-money-laundering law requires certain records to be kept for years after an account closes.
The privacy policy, linked in the casino footer, should name the data controller and explain how to make a subject access request. If you believe your data has been mishandled and the operator’s answer does not resolve it, you can complain to the ICO directly.
Payment Security: PCI DSS and TLS 1.3
The casino encrypts traffic with TLS 1.3, the current version of the protocol that puts the padlock in your browser bar. Card payments run through processors that must comply with PCI DSS, the card industry’s security standard, which means full card numbers are not stored on the casino’s own servers.
Your own habits matter as much as the operator’s certificates. Switch on two-factor authentication (authenticator app or SMS) in your account settings, use a unique password, and remember that the account locks after five failed logins and can only be reset by an emailed link. Our secure login walkthrough shows the exact steps.

GAMSTOP and Safer Gambling Bodies
GAMSTOP is the free national self-exclusion scheme for online gambling in Great Britain. Registering blocks you from every UKGC-licensed online operator, this one included, for six months, one year or five years. Alongside it you have tools inside the account: deposit and loss limits, session reminders, time-outs from 24 hours to six weeks, and self-exclusion from six months.
If gambling stops being fun, independent help is free and confidential. BeGambleAware.org offers advice and treatment referrals, and GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, open 24 hours a day. You can reach them without telling the casino anything.

What Certifications Do Not Guarantee
Licences and lab reports reduce risk; they do not remove it. Keep these limits in mind:
- No certificate changes the maths. Every game has a house edge, and losing streaks are a normal part of play.
- A licence is not a quality score. It sets a minimum bar. Speed of payouts, support quality and bonus value still vary between licensed sites, which is why we score them separately in our full scorecard review.
- Funds protection may be basic. Disclosure is mandatory; strong protection is not.
- Verification can still delay you. Being licensed means the casino must ask for documents, and a withdrawal can pause while it checks them.
- The regulator will not take your case. Individual disputes go to the casino first and then to the ADR provider named in its terms.
- Badges can be copied. A logo in a footer proves nothing until you have checked the register yourself.
Our overall verdict gives security and licensing 9.2 out of 10, but that score assumes you complete the register check above.
